Polypropylene is widely considered when moisture resistance and broad chemical compatibility are important. Polyester offers useful strength, dimensional stability and abrasion resistance in many general industrial duties. Polyamide, often called nylon, can suit abrasive service because of its strength and flexibility, but strong-acid exposure needs careful review. No polymer is universally suitable. Temperature, pH, solvents, oxidizing chemicals and cleaning agents should be checked together before the cloth is confirmed.
Monofilament yarns create a smoother, more defined fabric surface that is often easier to clean and can release cake more readily. Multifilament yarns contain bundles of finer fibers, which can improve fine-particle capture but may hold solids deeper in the fabric. Plain, twill and satin weaves arrange yarn crossings differently, so each changes surface texture, strength and permeability. Finishing treatments such as heat setting or calendaring can further change stability and smoothness. A drawing is helpful, but an old cloth sample can reveal details that a basic dimension sheet misses, including the feed neck, edge treatment, eyelets and attachment method. Photos of sticky cake, cloudy filtrate or uneven wear also help separate a cloth issue from a process or plate issue.
